A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pursuits far superior than scanning the updates: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out during the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
